Bihar's informal sector employs a significant portion of the workforce, yet these
workers often lack basic rights and protections, making them vulnerable to
exploitation and poor conditions. As one of India's most economically backward
states, Bihar sees most of its workforce engaged in informal employment. Workers
often lack awareness of their rights and have little representation or organization.
This proposal seeks to empower informal workers by raising awareness,
building advocacy skills, and supporting the formation of worker-led organizations
to represent their interests.
To empower and mobilize informal workers in India through collective action and
advocacy, in order to improve their working conditions, social protections, and
access to basic rights and Programs.
We aim to achieve this by building strong and sustainable worker-led
organizations, and by engaging with policymakers, employers, and other stakeholders
to promote laws and policies that support the rights and welfare of informal
workers.
Empowering and Organizing Informal Workers in Bihar
A just and equitable society where informal workers in India live with dignity and
security.
We aspire to create a future where every informal worker is recognized
for their
essential contributions and has access to the resources and support needed to thrive
and break
the cycle of poverty for themselves and their families.
To create a society where informal workers are recognized for their invaluable
contributions and enjoy:
Dignity: Fair treatment and respect for their essential
roles.
Security: Access to stable jobs, fair wages, healthcare,
and social protections.
Opportunities for Growth: Education and skill development
to break the cycle of poverty and build a better future for their families.
